Welcome
Welcome to My Desert Lens
If you’ve somehow found your way here - whether by curiosity, accident, or a well-timed nudge from the universe - I’m glad you arrived. This site grew from the same impulse that first pulled me west in 1986: a desire to look a little closer at the desert, and to share what I’ve seen with anyone who feels that same tug.
My Desert Lens isn’t meant to be an instruction manual for exploring the Southwest, or a catalog of “must-see” viewpoints. It’s simply a place for the things that have stayed with me: a play of light on a canyon wall, a trail that surprised me, a quiet morning on open ground when the world felt bigger than my plans for the day. The deserts - Great Basin, Mojave, Sonoran, and the familiar redstone labyrinths of Utah - have been patient companions for decades, and this space is where I return the favor.
You’ll find photos from old wanderings and new ones, stories from years on the road and even a few from behind my desk, and small reflections gathered from the delightful, steady rhythm of retirement. Some posts look outward at the landscapes that shaped my life; others look inward at why those landscapes matter. All of them come from the same place: a lifelong gratitude for the wide, quiet country that helped me become who I am.
So welcome. Take a look around. And if something here encourages you to step outside, breathe a little deeper, or follow a dirt road just to see where it goes, then this project is doing exactly what I hoped it would.
